This is one of the little pieces I just finished for the small works auction in a few weeks. I tried glazing it to get a more yellow tint over the whole thing, but I discovered that I needed a transparent oil color and not the opaque ochre that I used. So I left it as is once I fixed the details after screwing it up slightly. I'm quite pleased with this one (the elk especially) and will probably make a larger version of this piece with a more blue-ish gray tint instead of the warm browns and yellows.

5" X 6" Oil on masonite. For the most part, no refs used. By the way, without fullviewing it, the image is just slightly larger than actual size.

Love the mystic atmosphere of this!

The sounds that elk make are really funny, it always cracks me up that these huge, intimidating animals give such high-pitched squeaks :D

Haha, yes it's interesting what noises some animals make. :P I'd love to hear an elk bugle in person some day.

Canīt believe youīd never heard elk when you draw them a lot :D

Iīve heard that several times in a zoo... When I first heard it I thought it was a bird or something....didnīt expect such a noise coming from a deer :rofl:

Lol, I know! Though, the only time I've ever seen elk in person was in Yellowstone, and we went in the early summer when they're not in the rut, so they wouldn't really make much for sound. ;)
