Encounter by Misted-Dream Encounter by Misted-Dream
This is a moose painting I finished a little while ago, but haven't had a chance to upload it until now. I'm sort of happy with it, but there are definitely things that need improvement.

Oil on masonite, don't remember the size at the moment, maybe 10" X14"? Multiple refs lightly used.

For Sale: Note me if interested.

Wow, as well! Thanks so much for your wonderful comment. I been drawing ever since I can remember (probably around 2), but I think one of the first times I ever picked up a brush was in kindergarten. I never really painted on a more serious note until probably around 7th grade.

Your background is amazing, you should make a tutorial on your oil paintings. Everything just flows perfectly :)

Hmm, maybe I should think about that then. :) I don't have any paintings I plan on starting at the moment (I'm about half way through two of them), but maybe I'll take some progress shots on my next one and make something out of that?

Yes, I'm actually a studio art major in college (a senior this year! :noes:). I really want to become a professional wildlife/equine artist someday, so I'm aiming towards that direction.

haha well put. i want to be done, but i have much more to do and so much school ahead of me bah! i don't mind that much, i'm just tired of taking classes that don't pertain to my major at all. i always seem to get through things so i know i'll make it :). and you are very welcome, your work is always amazing

Yes, I remember that stage of my school life. It was irritating to have to take all these classes you just didn't care about. But the day WILL come when you can take your major classes, and that is a very lovely day indeed. ;) My advice is to get all those nasty classes out of the way first so that you can enjoy your major classes later. It's like eating your veggies before you eat the dessert.

This is a very beautiful color palette. I can tell you were thoughtful about how the tree trunks should tilt, it works very well.

Thanks very much! Yes, I'm trying to grow in my composition sensibility (if you want to call it that) and figured you could make the trees lead your eye around without making it look too odd.

This is beautiful - I love the foliage, it has such depth! Funny thing to point out I know, but it looks so natural... I'm envious, I can never do plants ;) Really love the idea and the structure of it as well.

Thanks! I think that's actually one of things I struggle with painting the most--that and you don't see foliage much because I'm always afraid I'll make it look too fake or unnatural, so I'm really glad you think they look good. The same goes for the color green as well. Lol, notice I don't have many green paintings in my gallery? ;)

Exactly the same here... I shy away from foliage anyway because I'm an unadventurous dork, but also it is really hard sometimes to get a nice natural green. One speedpainting I did turned out with this horrendous green field (bearing in mind the grass took up a large percentage of the whole thing, and in fact the whole image had a green-ish theme) It looked like it had been got by Slimer or something. Not good XD

Ah, I think it is somewhat hilarious how we're scared of foliage--it's everywhere, and yet when think about painting it, it's almost a petrifying thought. (And in my opinion, it becomes very boring to paint if it isn't properly thought out and executed. ;) Thus we become sloppy and it turns out like crap.) Haha, grass. That is one aspect of flora that is nearly impossible to avoid. Seriously though, why do we seem to have such a problem with it? :XD:

I know, and what is it? - it's just green shapes!! I think it's because there's so much of it and it gets repetitive, and you have to spend a lot of time in order to do a decent job - there's no shortcut with greenery!

Probably. That and the fact that I think we tend to over analyze the thing and add in way more detail than someone would normally be able to see from that point of view.

Definitely this as well! There is a fine line between overdoing the detail, and thinking you can get away with not putting so much in and it looks bad as a result. A fine balance...
